O.J. Simpson Dies at 76
Acquitted in 1994 Murder Trial, Simpson Remained Controversial Figure
Golman Family Says Simpson Died Without Penance
WEB, April 11, 2024 (Updated 11:01 AM PT) - O.J. Simpson, the former NFL player who was acquitted of the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, died Wednesday following a battle with cancer at the age of 76, his family shared.
David Cook, an attorney who represented the Goldman family, said Simpson died "without penance." The Goldman family has emphasized the pain they've lived with since Ron's death, while Simpson's acquittal remains a controversial and divisive topic.
Brown and Goldman were found stabbed to death outside Brown's Brentwood home in 1994. Simpson was accused of the murders and put on trial in a highly publicized case. He was ultimately acquitted by a jury, but many people believed he was guilty.
In a civil trial held after the criminal trial, Simpson was found liable for the deaths of Brown and Goldman and ordered to pay damages to their families. He was also imprisoned for armed robbery and kidnapping in 2007 and served nine years in prison before being released in 2017.
