Europe Braces for Record-Breaking Heatwave

Extreme Heat Warnings Issued for Italy's Major Cities

Europe is in the grip of an unprecedented heatwave, with soaring temperatures and health warnings across the continent. Italy has issued its first-ever "red extreme heat" warnings for 16 major cities, including Rome and Florence.

The prolonged heatwave has put a severe strain on healthcare systems, and experts are urging vulnerable populations to take precautions. The extreme heat is a result of a combination of factors, including a prolonged drought and a north African air mass. The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days, with temperatures expected to reach record highs.

In Britain, the Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning for much of the country, with temperatures predicted to reach 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) on Tuesday or Wednesday. This would make it the hottest day on record in the UK since records began.

Other parts of Europe, including Spain, Portugal, and France, are also experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius. The heatwave is disrupting transportation, shutting down businesses, and putting a strain on energy grids.

Scientists say that climate change is making heatwaves more frequent and intense. This summer's heatwave is the second major one to hit Europe in just two months, after a record-breaking heatwave in June led to hundreds of deaths.
